Artist's Statement:

I met this lovely girl at the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter recently. Her eyes whre so captivating If I had been looking for a dog at the time I would have taken her home with me then and there.

This is her story:

Betsy was driven into Wingecarribee Animal Shelter after being found wandering the streets, disorrientated and in poor condition. She was a trembling nervous wreck.

After a few soft pats her trust was gained, and she relaxed. The shelter staff noticed a nasty wound on her face and drove her straight to the vets to have her health checked. Betsy had an enormous, swollen wound on her face, probably from a bite. She hadn't recieved the vet treatment that she desparately needed and this had resulted in a nasty infected mass on her face. Which the vet sorted out.

It took a few days in the beginning for Betsy to settle into the daily life of living at the shelter. She recieved the best treatment and care from the staff and it didn't take long for her to fully relax and enjoy her stay. It might have been the first time in Betsy's life that she'd had such good treatment; a warm cosy bed, good quality food, daily walks with our team of volunteers and much needed cuddles and attention. Betsy transformed into a beautiful, affectionate and outgoing character. We never thought she would make such a remarkable recovery.

After a few weeks of being at the shelter, a couple came along and decided that Betsy was the one for them. She is now in a loving and caring environment. She's now in a home that every dog deserves.
