The Artist's Best Friend
Linda Shantz
Finn came to me at about 6 months, not long after I had lost my Brittany Spaniel to a devastating illness and was determined to be a one-dog person for a while. I've rehabilitated and placed a lot of dogs in my days as a dog trainer, so Finn was another project I'd been given. Trouble was, he didn't seem to want to leave! He wasn't going to be an easy dog to place, as he needed a lot of consistency and a structured life with an experienced individual. In time, I admitted perhaps I should be the one to give that to him, and almost nine years later, I'm very glad I made that decision.
While he looks the part, I'm convinced Finn isn't purebred Border Collie. He's a bit taller than your average male, but it's his brain that gives him away -- he's just not as quick as your average BC! He's goofy and lovable and also very photogenic, and has made a wonderful muse. His great markings and endearing expression make him a subject I could paint over and over.
